Brand Spotlight: RED Valentino

Ahh, Red Valentino: the modern-day fairytale we’ve always dreamed of. What better way to kick off the holiday season than with romantic blushes, velvety reds, and lacy blacks? Prince Charming not included…

Described as “romantic eccentric dress”, Red Valentino is a sublet of Valentino, at more affordable prices. Okay, so $990 for a dress is not exactly a steal, but fortunately sites such as Nordstrom and Piperlime carry the brand, and sales and promos can definitely make your modern fairytale come true. Red Valentino is classic, feminine, confident and most fabulously Italian!

The brand’s tumblr,, is a fun place to get lost for a little while. Alternatively, you may find yourself a special holiday something on one of many sites, including Neiman Marcus and Shopbop, plus the ones mentioned above. Shop my picks below, and I’ll see you at the palace! I’ll be the one in the printed bustier dress with the full skirt and matching head bow.

What I Wore: Fuchsia and Flowers

News flash: upstate New York is freezing. Cue the thick knit socks and tousled hair. Also, I found this awesome French Connection boucle 100% wool coat on clearance at Plato’s Closet last month for $6. Success!

Autumn is my favorite season (after summer, that is; my birthday is in August and therefore belongs to the best season). I’ll skip the customary list of stuff that’s great about fall, because windows exist and you can look outside them to see what’s going on out there!! Sadly, we are now moving into November which comes in like a lion and goes out like a really rabid lion. Basically, fall = freezing wind.

It’s impossible to go wrong with a bright, solid-colored Kate Spade bag. I found this trusty Primrose Hill Goldie Satchel new on eBay for around $200 last year, and it fits an insane amount of my stuff – textbooks, iPad, lipstick, keys, hand sanitzer, scotch tape…

This outfit was a risk for me. I’m self-conscious when it comes to bearing so much skin, but I was dying to test drive my new socks and they’re the exact same color as this skirt. I paired it with the solid shirt to pick up the grey in the skirt, which is a leftover from my summer wardrobe – I’m always on the lookout for ways to extend pieces into the next seasons.

Thigh-highs, Hue (Amazon – $11) Top, Forever 21 ($6); skirt, Urban Outfitters/Kimchi Blue (thrifted – $6).

I’m obsessed with Bloch flats. They’re a less expensive alternative to ballet brands like Repetto, and once in a while a pair will pop up on eBay in my price range (they usually retail for $125+). I found these for $20 new a few years back and they go with just about everything!

Leaves are too pretty!

Brand Spotlight: Banana Republic x L’Wren Scott

Coming soon…

Banana Republic, one of my favorite brands, has chosen L’Wren Scott for the latest collaboration. This December’s collection brings a whirlwind of mulberry and red tones paired with fun patterns for a perfectly whimsical holiday season! The partnership will feature fifty pieces (wow!) with nothing over $200.

Old news or fresh twist?

Past collabs and special collections at BR have definitely made waves in my world, including the Mad Men styles, Milly and Trina Turk. The lip pattern in this series is definitely reminiscent of Betsey Johnson, but the tailored nature of the blazers and pants lend a more classic feel to the items.

Thrift sense:

I will personally be waiting for the items to go on sale, because I tend to shy away from wild patterns (though I may give in depending on how cute the multi-colored lip print is in person). I do love the olive brocade fitted jacket that is featured, but it’s probably a little out of my price range right now.

Check out some of the highlights below, and mark your calendars for December 5th!
